But I was ready. Months of training and preparation had me ready to climb Mount Seymour in beautiful North Vancouver, BC! We started the race Oceanside and finished in the clouds at the top of the mountain. 27kms, 1800m of Elevation Gain and 4 hours and 30mins of work! I never thought I would ever do cardio for that long ever!
And I wouldn’t change it for the world…. Ok well maybe the slippery wet fall 2kms into the race 😉
What was the hardest part of the race?
- The unknown. Not knowing what was next. How much longer did I have to climb up that hill? How much time was left? With trail races, if you don’t know what the trail is like (elevation/terrain) you don’t know how much work you have left and in turn how much output is still required. Have I fuelled myself enough? Am I going too slow up this part to not reach my goal? I am a big planner and this part was a tough one for me!
What was my favourite part of the race? (ok or a few favourites)
- Knowing I had put in the work and could enjoy the race. And I actually did!
- We live in a world of instant gratification and there is something to be said about pushing hard, working for something and being rewarded. Delayed gratification is a great feeling – its not simple. It’s a pile of work, a pile of emotions building up for one big event and one BIG WIN. But so worth the grind.
- My family and friends chasing me around the course and seeing them at checkpoints. Even one friendly face can make a world of difference when you’re deep into those negative thoughts.
How did I come to this 27km mountain climb if I had never done anything like this before?
My Community
None of this would have ever happened without my gym family at Limitless Performance where I was challenged to set a MASSIVE GOAL and to one of my best friends who was crazy enough to do it with me. Surround yourself with others who challenge and inspire you and you just never know who you might become.
My Vision
We all dream and hope and wish BUT very few of us write them down, give ourselves permission to tackle them or take the time to follow through with them.
I didn’t always have a vision. I just put my head down and grinded. And some of this grinding well, was just grinding. It didn’t get me any further ahead and sometimes got me further behind.
But, I figured out my WHY just over a year ago at Personal Mastery Academy hosted by Robin Sharma a Personal Development Leader. I learned so much that weekend, especially about myself. But the biggest lesson learned was that I wouldn’t be able to apply any of the information I learned if I didn’t take time to disconnect from the daily grind and determine my vision! The hustle and bustle just isn’t a place for dreaming and isn’t a place for visionaries. I am forever thankful for this weekend and my newly implemented quarterly re-sets to review my vision and goals and make sure I have a plan to get there.
My Plan
For my birthday, I booked our quarterly re-set with Adam (my hubby) back in March. 🙂
This was a special weekend, some would call it a vacation but I call it so much more! A weekend to disconnect, a weekend to focus on me, a weekend to dream, create and plan!
It was during this birthday weekend that I took my dream, turned it into a goal, created a plan and schedule to crush the race. An attainable plan around my goal and my life! Vacation? Maybe ….. Dream Weekend? That’s more like it!
You may think this race I did or the work I put in is “unattainable” for someone like you (many have said this to me). But truly, anyone could do this. You just need the right system to get you on track and keep you on track. Oh and a little effort! But what’s an accomplishment worth if you don’t have to work for it…
- Vision
- Plan
- Effort
What’s next?!?!? That’s the real question. I have some big dreams and in November, Adam and I will be hosting a Dream Weekend in beautiful Scottsdale Arizona. One of our quarterly-resets.
